Today we went to Taylor's Falls (or as those crazy Wisconsinites call it, St. Croix Falls). This is a big time childhood memory for me, we went there a lot..... Now that I think of it, we didn't actually stop there very often (Dad never allowed stopping, there was always some strange deadline for arriving...), but we drove through it all the time. For me, growing up camping was BIG and getting to the various camping places was made easier by looking for the landmarks along the way. Taylor's Falls was the place to look for ....dun dun dun "Devils' Chair". You couldn't actually see this rock formation from the car, but we looked for it anyway. I believe that it recently broke or partially crashed, but I will just keep telling my children "there's devil's chair".
Calvin and I went to the Pothole area of the National Park. The potholes were formed by glaciers in the way back when...."Potholes" is a big neat word for three year olds, needless to say it was screamed out every time we saw anything that resembled a hole. We climbed, threw rocks, looked for potholes and discussed the effects of lava (also another big deal word for anyone who is three). On the drive there, Calvin slept most of the way, but when we stopped for gas he said "This is a really nice drive mommy".
Most of our time was also filled with discussions on safety (we were surrounded by deadly cliffs....good thing Dad wasn't there) that were interjected with "I can do this all by myself". Attention span of a fly, he has.
